This rich Native Gold in Quartz specimen comes from the Porcupine Triumph mine in Timmins area, Cochrane District, Ontario, Canada. I am not sure what the Porcupine won, but i'm intrigued by the naming history of this mine. Apparently unrelated to the larger Porcupine mine, exploration started in the area in 1922 with shafts eventually reaching 350 ft depth but with little success and the mine closed in 1940. Ownership by other companies through until the 1990s does not appear to have lead to any major developments. This miniature specimen is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) and displays rich areas of metallic Native Gold. An extremely rare locality specimen from this smaller Canadian gold mine.
