Quartz with Chlorite Inclusions on Axinite
Mint green and a deep purple-brown create an earth-tones contrast in this superlative alpine specimen, coming from the mountains of the Shigar Valley. These high-altitude minerals are difficult to excavate, but entirely worth it: The central Quartz crystal is extremely transparent, save for the Chlorite inclusions, and has an unusually wide shape, not to mention doubly-terminated. Around this focal crystal are dozens of fabulous Axinite blades, all in excellent shape and very lustrous. These crystals all have a unique lilac-tinted brown color, which indicates that this is likely the Fe-rich variety of Axinite.
