An interesting specimen of charcoal-black, Carbonized Wood that is riddled with brightly contrasting beds of gemmy, yellow Sulphur crystals. The Sulphur is well-formed, glassy, and hoppered, reaching up to a size of 1.4 centimeters. Interestingly, the two piece offered in this lot come from the same specimen but were naturally dislodged from each other via Sulphur crystallization inside the wood; looking at the elongated piece of Carbonized Wood, you can easily see the difference in size between the Sulphur crystals formed on the surface of the wood (larger) and those from within (smaller). While specimens like this are not unusual for this locality, the phenomenon is still fairly unique and fascinating to witness. These specimens are likely the result of a tree or log being placed in an extreme-heat, low-oxygen environment (probably an ash flow, in this case); ultimately, Sulphur was able to crystallize atop the specimen and within the Carbonized Wood's porous interior. The specimen, collectively, comes with a custom acrylic base.
