Dolomite on Galena
This unusual find from the Tonglushan Mine is largely composed of well-formed, blocky Galena crystals that, from their shape and luster, bear a striking resemblance to the material from Missouri. Most of the Galena is draped in a layer of pearly, saddle-shaped Dolomite crystals, adding a color balance to the cabinet specimen. This coating is preferential, meaning that the crystals precipitated from one side. What stands out most about the Galena in this specimen, however, is the thin coating of lustrous microcrystals that give the crystals a glittery appearance under lighting. The most impressive of these crystals, reaching 1.9 centimeters in size, is presented at the forefront. The specimen is complete with small pockets of Quartz, a Sphalerite matrix on the back side, and some associations of brassy-yellow Chalcopyrite. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
