The preferentially crystallized Calcite on this giant Descloizite cluster is a great representation of how generations of minerals deposit, with the direction of precipitation indicating the very direction that the crystals grew in the pocket! These Calcite crystals have a nice orange tint, complementing the deep red-brown color of the Descloizite. The spear-shaped crystals are complex and so lustrous that they nearly appear metallic. Berg Aukas, during its 65-year run, produced the largest amount of this species of any mine in the world. Because the Descloizite crystallized in such spacious vugs, miners were able to excavate some exceptionally formed examples such as this. This specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
