Tucson, Arizona, USAThis form of Barytocalcite is unique to Nentsberry Haggs mine, near Nenthead, Alston Moor, Cumbria, England. This mine is not all that far from the Type Locality at Blagill, but its crystal form is so very different, and arguably much better than the earlier occurrence. I liken these crystals to shark's fins, rising up from a 2.5 cm thick layer of fudge-coloured Barytocalcite. The freestanding crystals reach 0.9 cm in length and are all coated in white (possibly a very thin layer of Baryte). They are all in perfect condition except for a couple at the very edge of the specimen. A very richly crystallized large miniature of this very rare barium calcium carbonate species. Ex Malcolm Southwood collection, no. MS 2010.230, and ex Malcolm Woodward collection, no. 330, collected in 1998 from the Admiralty Flats section of the mine.
