An unusual American locality piece that warranted a closer look: Although originally labeled as "Hematite" in this collection, this is actually a complete pseudomorph of Goethite after Hematite from the Superior Mine in the Marquette Iron Range in Michigan. This artistic piece has three, elongate, intergrown, botryoidal "stalactitic" growths, two with typical rounded tops and the other is broken to reveal the internal, radial structure of the Goethite. There is minor contacting on one side and the bottom where it was attached to other Goethite/Hematite structures and there is also a drusy coating of Calcite on the back and bottom. A thin obscuration of orangey brown discontinuous Goethite covers most of the piece. A very good example of this unusual pseudomorph from here. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Hematite ps. Calcite (twinned) (SYP25-23b) and Calcite (twinned) (SYP25-23c).
