This is an extremely distinctive Axinite-(Fe) from the remote far eastern part of Russia. It is not without wear, but this is a characterful Axinite-(Fe) with very large (8.4 cm in length) dark chocolate brown crystals. These form two main 'blades' which are developed almost parallel although very slightly diverging from each other. The crystals surfaces are complexly stepped, in a manner unusual for Axinite Group minerals, and with growth lines forming striations. This surface texture, along with possible internal inclusions make the crystals so dark, but also marginally less glassy than some Axinite. The bladed crystal edges are all rough from wear, but for shear size and overall shape, this displays very nicely with support. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 4644. His label records the locality as "PRIBREZHUOYE CHUKOTKA, SIBERIA".
