Tucson, Arizona, USAManganite from Ilfeld in the Harz, Thuringia, Germany is one of those minerals which needs no introduction. Iconic it certainly is, and unsurpassed in crystal quality by any other locality in the world. Most of the best specimens were collected during the latter part of the 19th century and although some good specimens have been recovered in more recent years they don't compare with the original finds. This large miniature specimen is entirely Manganite, grading from a finer crystallized matrix up into large freestanding prismatic crystals. These crystals, many of which reach 1 cm in length, are all really well formed and almost entirely cover the top surface of the specimen making for an extremely fine display. This is one of those famous European classics which most collectors aspire to own. Ex Professor Werner Paar collection.
