Aragonite
This form of Aragonite is an old-time classic from the famous Špania Dolina (Herrengrund) mining area in Slovakia. Similar in shape (pseudohexagonal prisms) to the original material in Aragon in Spain, it differs by having a much whiter colour and greater translucency. These Slovakian classics were mostly mined during the 1840s and this superb small cabinet display piece is accompanied by a suite of labels, some showing considerable age. Most recently, it was in the collection of Simone and Peter Huber (no. 1747). It is dominated by two main, slightly divergent pseudohexagonal prisms, the largest of which reaches 6 cm in length, and both are in remarkable fine condition.
