Stannite is a rare metallic mineral that contains tin, copper, and iron sulfides; and seldom makes large crystals. From the Smale collection, this is a classic stannite specimen with a beautiful crystal cluster on matrix from finds of the 1990s: among the first identified finds there of this rare species. A sharp miniature featuring a robust crystal to 1 cm in cluster with others, this is nicely displayed in a nest of elegant quartz. It is highly lustrous, in a way hard to capture with photos. This was a choice example long held in Steve Smale's suite of rare species miniatures. Steve bought much YGX material at the time, as he was based in Hong Kong in the 90s and early 2000s. He then sold/traded them to the rest of us. This aesthetic miniature, he kept for more than 2 decades in his Chinese miniatures suites.
