Description

Galena on Fluorite from Annabel Lee Mine, Illinois, USA. 20th Century.

Galena is a lead sulfide mineral. This is an exceptional example for its sculpturesque form, bright tone, and its association with gorgeous fluorite. The combination is infrequent, yet represented here in the most striking way—with great contrast of textures, opacity, luster, and colors. It comes from the collection of the foremost collector of Illinois minerals, Ross Lillie, and is easily among the finest galena specimens from the locality.
