This is a fascinating, presumed older, specimen from Abenab mine equidistant from Grootfontein and Tsumeb. This older assumption is based in the mine closing in the 1940s, but remarkable specimens from there are to be seen in older museum collections around the world. This piece is not just a small example, but a large, museum quality cabinet specimen and reveals the classic, if not unique paragenesis, of large elongated to stalactitic Vanadinite crystals encapsulated with dark brown spiky to bladed Descloizite crystals. One side of the stalactites are completely covered in Descloizite crystals, the other more sparsely so, with beige Vanadinite showing through. Helpfully, one of the Vanadinite crystals is snapped off, exposing the deep orange-red resinous interior, or else there would be no actual evidence of what the inside looks like - just the duller beige outer surface.
