This large cabinet-sized plate from Blackdene mine in Weardale comes with some pedigree - a Richard Barstow white collection label. Comprising a thin bed of crystallized Quartz upon which a rich coating of Calcite has formed - as stacked, and freestanding hexagonal plates, thin schieferspath (paper spar) and layered aggregates - a few extremely gemmy pale purple Fluorite crystals are hidden amongst the Calcite too. Remarkably, for something so delicate, there is very little observable damage. Ex Mike Brooke collection, no. MB1318.
