Tucson, Arizona, USAClassic large colourless Fluorite cubes with Quartz crystals from Cambokeels mine near Westgate in Weardale, Co. Durham. This cabinet sized specimen sits naturally for display on its side, with cubes up to 2.5 cm on edge. Paragenetically, the core of the specimen is purple Fluorite - in large hidden cubes - encapsulated with a hedgehog-like mass of spiky terminated pyramidal Quartz crystals (forming the base of the specimen). The only evidence of this purple Fluorite is one corner where the Quartz layer is removed. Then, upon the Quartz (therefore paragenetically later), on the other side of the specimen, a layer of colourless Fluorite crystals has developed, ranging in size from 3 mm to 2.5 cm crystals, the smaller the more glassy and transparent they are. There is some minor chipping to the edges and corners of the larger, more matt crystals, but overall this is a fine Cambokeels piece. Ex Malcolm Southwood collection.
