This miniature specimen certainly gets no marks for aesthetics, but then it doesn't need to. It is massive, to slightly botryoidal Cassiterite from Bejewans Tin Stream Works at Sancreed, St. Just, Cornwall, England and dates to circa 1856. How do we know this? Well it is ex Baroness Burdett-Coutts (1814-1906) collection via the Natural History Museum, London. Baroness Burdett-Coutts' collection was one of the many historic collections acquired by Sir Arthur Russell and so it seems likely that this was from his duplicate collection. A small number label (no. 37) is attached to the specimen, but it is unclear what this relates to.
