This remarkable Calcite crystal is a Namibian classic, but it is not from Tsumeb mine. Instead, it is from a copper mine in Windhoek District known as Onganja mine. The crystal is a floater, with no obvious point of attachment. It is a scalenohedron, gemmy and glassy and containing inclusions of both bright metallic Native Copper and ruby red Cuprite. At 3 cm in length it is admittedly not huge, but it is so wonderfully detailed, with complex crystal surfaces, particularly on the trigonal faces at both terminations. These copper included scalenohedra are so rarely seen and this is a remarkable example.
