A choice and unique, very gracile copper specimen from the Champion Mine, well known for other styles of copper crystallization but for which this is somewhat unique. This is a large piece with lots of volume, although surprisingly little weight - truly elegant in form. Fine copper filaments here are actually unusually extended crystals; and they only survive as they had been protected by calcite after formation and later etched out of that surrounding calcite. Very few survived! Please note attached matrix on bottom left, unusual for this find from the 1990s. Private copper country collection of Donald Olson to Sean Finneson Copper collection as exhibited in Tucson 2022. Published in Mineral Collections in the Pacific Northwest (Mineralogical Record, Sept. 2019 - Scovil photo at end of our own photos).
