Tucson, Arizona, USAThis is an extremely large Chalcocite crystal (4 cm across), naturally flattened but with good overall hexagonal shape and very nice stepped/hoppered growth lines. Finer detail on the surface includes tiny scale-like crystals. It is from the Dzhezkazgan mining district in Karagandy Province, Kazakhstan where copper mining started in the late Bronze Age. Crystals of this type came out from Dzhezkazgan decades ago and are just never seen these days. Ex Erwin Kainer collection.
