Veszelyite on Hemimorphite with DONGCHUANITE Group
Unknown Owner
This miniature Veszelyite from the now famous Chinese discovery at Sanguozhuang Pb-Zn mine, Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan shows the paragenesis of this secondary (supergene) species very nicely, with the colourful blue crystals sat upon layers of finely crystallized colourless Hemimorphite. Veszelyite - copper zinc phosphate hydrate hydroxide - is an extremely rare species and the recent discovery at Sanguozhuang Pb-Zn mine is spectacular. The small layered piece of Hemimorphite contains narrow cavities within which deep royal blue Veszelyite crystals have formed as swirling curved, serrated, blade-like crystal sprays (up to 7.5 mm in length) with a resinous lustre and associated with these are many tiny spherical pale mint-green crystals of a Dongchuanite Group species. The top surface of this miniature specimen is an open cavity where the overall form of the Veszelyite crystals can be appreciated. A fine miniature from this superb recent discovery.
