Cavansite with Calcite on Calcite
While cavansite is common enough, this has always been a favorite of ours for the unique combination of calcite upon cavansite, itself perched in a nest of gemmy calcite rhombohedra. This beautiful specimen features a NEON BLUE cavansite cluster to 3 cm across, decorated with jewel like calcites, all showing a sparkle and shimmer. The contrast is striking and very unique - not common at all, and that is with watching cavansite finds since the 1990s. Additionally, this is not a cavansite "ball" as you so often see. No! This is a cluster of real crystals, sharp, almost metallic crystals of 1.5-2 cm arranged in a radial cluster - this is visible from one side, in particular. It is NOT the regular spherical shaped lump of cavansite. This is the much more rare style of sharply crystallized specimens, 1 in 1000 compared to the normal ball style. Combined with the calcite accents, this is perhaps a one-off in the size and quality. It is also pristine. We bought this in the early 2000s as it came out from India, and sold it to Jack at that time. Illustrated as figure 76 on page #89 of Addicted to Beauty: The Legacy of Jack Halpern (Mineralogical Record, March 2025). Laszlo Kupi photo.
