Tucson, Arizona, USAMežica, or Miess, in Slovenia is probably best known for its Wulfenite mineral specimens. Although it is not the Type Locality it is not all that far removed from the original source across the border in Austria. Wulfenite is a secondary mineral, an alteration or oxidation product of primary ores, but at Mežica Wulfenite was so abundant it was used as an ore of molybdenum. This miniature specimen displays two forms of Wulfenite. On the back of the specimen dull, biscuit-coloured square-section tabular platy crystals are aggregated, but show damage. On the front of the specimen smaller, bright, glossy, orange-yellow colour-zoned, sandwich-like tabular crystals with rounded beveled edges dominate and are in excellent condition. This is a small specimen, but it is a really nice example of European Wulfenite from a classic occurrence.
