Tucson, Arizona, USAWhim Creek in Roebourne Shire, Western Australia is one of Australia's best-known Wulfenite localities, and has produced highly distinctive specimens which standout amongst worldwide occurrences no so much for the size of individual crystals, but their overall look. Most specimens came from this small mine during the early 1980s, perhaps a little earlier, and usually only turn up as older collections are dispersed and recycled. This is exactly the case here. This lovely large miniature specimen is from David Hardman's collection (no. 5194) and displays the classic sinter-like gossanous rock matrix, the surface of which is scattered with rich orange coloured bipyramidal Wulfenite crystals. These crystals might only be 1 to 1.5 mm in size, but their colour contrasting with the matt black background really makes them stand out. A fine Australian classic.
