This cabinet-sized Tsumeb mine rarity is not without damage, but is a really unusual combination. The Mottramite forms the classic Tsumeb colour - a deep camouflage green, with a velvety texture - and forms some botryoidal masses, but the majority of its form is from an underlying rhombic shape, where it completely encrusts, and possibly replaces, Smithsonite crystals (note that the previous owner suggested it was Tennantite) which reach 1.7 cm across. There are several areas where the tips of the Mottramite botryoids have been bruised, or broken open, and due to the all encapsulating form, some of the Mottramite on the base has been bruised, but this is an extremely rich Tsumeb Mottramite. A lovely piece indeed. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 5014, and ex Roger S. Harker who died in the 1970s.
