Tucson, Arizona, USAThis huge specimen of Hemimorphite crystals encrusting gossan from Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey is recorded as having come from the "Mud Zone". This is documented online as a one-time discovery made in 1995 in Passaic Pit at Sterling Hill which was short-lived - obliterated by collectors within a year. Passaic Pit was the 1870s opencut where fine Hemimorphite specimens were recovered and this 1995 discovery was believed to be a remnant of low grade ore left behind. This specimen has a large surface area (14.5 x 10 cm) coated in well-formed small free-standing bladed Hemimorphite crystals. A remarkable specimen. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 3089.
