If ever there was a mine name which demanded you own a specimen, then it is the Bumblebee mine. Conjuring up images of a countryside idyll teeming with invertebrates rather than an abandoned industrial site, little is in fact recorded about this fascinating copper mine in Ontonagon County, Michigan. What snippets there are suggest that it set off from the original Ontonagon mine property. What we do know is that nodular Datolite was perhaps the most famous mineral to be found on the dumps, but rarely fine Native Copper too. However, you will probably have to wait a long time to find another Native Copper quite as large and rich as this specimen, particularly as the dumps have been reclaimed. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 1102.
