A stunning example of this classic USA material because of the color saturation in BOTH species, the feldspar and the quartz. Most often, only one or the other species has a deep and rich color, whereas here they are both at the top of their game. The piece does not have a huge size to it, but it has aesthetics of a unique style in a very collectible size range. Moreover, there are two other subtle factors that elevate the specimen. The Amazonites are to 3.5 cm. Firstly, it is on matrix of granite and nearly all such amazonite combo specimens, possibly 99 of 100 or more, are off matrix due to the condition when they are found, or because it is the only way to extract such specimens. Amazonite on granite matrix, of this color, has only come from a very few famous pockets, among them the Jack Rabbit Pocket collected in the early 1980s by Bob Bartsch and friends. This was one of Bob's personal pieces, later passed on to his friend and executor, the legendary collector Rock Currier. They were each the other's executor, and collected together for decades. A legendary find and provenance, here, combined with stunning color contrast and one more bit of upside: no repairs! Nearly all such large specimens and combination specimens are repaired - often, multiple times. While acceptable in context, it is still better to not have repairs if possible, and this is such a rarity in that regard. Rock never sold any of these while alive, and treasured them. They have not otherwise been for sale in many decades, except for these few pieces from the Currier collection.
