Adamite (early 1900s)
Firstly, this is an impressive as heck, large wheatsheaf cluster of adamite, the gorgeous species that really reaches its apex at Ojuela. The style is so different, in size and form and slightly in color, because this is a true antique. We found this in a German collection not long ago and snapped it up immediately. I have never seen anything like it in collections; and it is so much more robust than similar shaped material that came out in the 1980s. This is one of the oldest fine documented adamites of quality we know of, and it would have come out of the early Ojuela Mine operations, probably prior to the 1920s. The label dates it to the 1920s-1930s, when it was in the stock of Anton Berger in Vienna (1870-1956). It displays vertically or horizontally to equal effect. Comes with custom lucite base. At first glance, this might seem from the flat photo to be an "expensive" adamite...but it is huge, robust, different, and really dramatic in person. It is bigger than it appears, when in the hand.
