Wulfenite
Modern finds at this remote, small mine in Mexico have produced surprises over the last few years since 2015 or so. This is a beautiful and vibrant yellow La Morita Mine Wulfenite piece that consists of several, translucent, butterscotch colored squarish crystals from 2 mm to 1.5 cm across. They are lustrous on one side and have preferential pinkish dusting of Hematite within the top layer of the crystals on the other side that is still lustrous. The specimen is very attractive with its vivid yellow color, great luster and well-formed crystals. All of the Wulfenites have sharp, tapered edges due to pyramidal face modifications. The crystals decorate the top ridgeline of the Baryte matrix and there is good separation of the crystals there resulting in a well balanced and nicely composed small cabinet piece. Interestingly, the back side is ALSO quite nice, and has a totally different aspect with a frosted, darker caramel-colored surface. The front is bright and colorful and sparkling, while the back is so different that it feels more like an exercise in appreciating the geometry of the piece for a different view entirely.
