An aesthetic and rich Pyromorphite specimen from finds in the early 2000s at the Daoping Mine in China, 2003-2005 variety judging by the color and style (also it was in my friend's closet for nearly 20 years...). It's an attractively shaped piece adorned with numerous, bright neon green, hexagonal Pyromorphite crystals from 2 to 8 mm. The barrel-shaped Pyromorphites are rather stout too in that they are as wide as they are tall. Crystal size is zoned on the piece with smaller crystals dominating at the outer edge and larger crystals more prevalent at the interior. Many of the Pyromorphites are slightly hoppered at their terminations. These colorful crystals are emplaced on a porous, off-white and slightly iron-stained Baryte matrix adorned with tiny Pyromorphite crystals. Some peripheral contacting on the piece with only a few small incomplete crystals in those areas too that don't detract much. A nicely composed and fine example of a Daoping Pyromorphite which have become contemporary classics. This was bought and put away for decades in the Smale collection.
