Tucson, Arizona, USAThe Bansk' 'tiavnica (formerly Schemnitz) mining district in Slovakia is a complexly mineralised area of epithermal veins hosting both precious and base metals. Amongst its 136 mineral species is wonderfully crystallised and coloured Amethyst Quartz. This small cabinet specimen is of a good colour grading from light amethystine prisms into rich deep purple terminations. When examined closely, the individual crystals, which are typically 2 to 3 cm tall from their roots, are seen to be superbly zoned and contain multiple stacked chevroned phantoms. A splendid Amethyst from Bansk' 'tiavnica accompanied with a lovely 8.7 x 6.5 cm old handwritten label.
