Cassiterite
This Cassiterite from Horn' Slavkov in the Karlovy Vary Region of Bohemia, Czech Republic, is one of those Cassiterites whose crystal faces have a dazzling lustre, more like polished glass than metal! This is Cassiterite at its best and one for any connoisseur of this species. The matrix is mainly that of massive black Cassiterite, out of which four large crystals have developed, the largest to 3.3 cm across. Some prism edges are slightly chipped and bruised. It is right and necessary such defects are pointed out to the reader in any description, but the specimen remains amazing and a stunning example of the species. Beneath the Cassiterite, on its base, remains a fine granular pegmatitic matrix containing purple Fluorite, colourless Topaz and creamy Feldspar.
