Cuprite on NATIVE Copper with Quartz
Unknown Owner
This truly exceptional Cornish Cuprite is from the little known Wheal Druid, a small copper mine which amalgamated with the larger Carn Brea mine in 1831. Small cabinet in size, its form is extremely distinctive, comprising a 'web' of Native Copper filaments concealed beneath a coating of bright, reflective, dark purple Cuprite crystals alongside one edge of which are Milky Quartz crystals. Under magnification and illumination the Cuprite crystals transform from purple to gemmy ruby red crystals, mostly octahedral in form. There are no accompanying labels to provide any additional background to its history, but it is a really lovely Cornish Cuprite.
