Tucson, Arizona, USAIt might surprise you how rare good Arsenopyrite crystals are in England. There are many mines in Cornwall and Devon where Arsenopyrite occurs and then Carrock mine in the Caldbeck Fells in Cumbria, but most specimens show small crystals, part crystals, or just massive silvery grey. This miniature specimen from this latter locality is superb, displaying an aggregate of 7 or 8 perfectly formed striated, diamond-shaped, silvery metallic crystals, the largest at 1.7 cm across. They are bright metallic, showing little in the way of surface tarnish and simply superb. An old handwritten label in biro, about which nothing is known, accompanies the specimen and the number 452 is written on a small area of Tippex on the back of the specimen. Based on the history of the mine and the label I would date the specimen to the 1970s or 1980s.
