A new find of blue Hemimorphite was made at the Palabanda quarries, Mfouati District, Republic of the Congo in 2020 but most specimens are a very pale blue, or are punctuated with small crystals of deep blue Veszelyite. This miniature specimen stands out because the surface is pure, uniformly blue Hemimorphite, of a quite intense colour and with a lovely 'wet' lustre. Internally, the botryoidal crust of Hemimorphite displays white layering, similar to the famous Sardinian material. A pretty little piece from this rather limited find.
Very intense color, no visible damage and perfect shape for a botryoidal (round, grape-shaped) crystal. We are used to crystals being sharp, having distinct edges in their geometry. Botryoidal, rounded crystals introduce a different way of admiring nature's beauty. Their formations are arguably more complex and remind us of natural phenomena like clouds, waves and sand dunes.
