Sphalerite with Calcite$300.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
The Joplin Field is one of the classic areas of the Tri-State District in Missouri, USA and this excellent cabinet specimen is certainly what would be termed an old-timer! It is composed from a jumble of lustrous, metallic black Sphalerite crystals, sized between a few millimetres and 2.3 cm, covering a mainly hidden matrix of massive, opaque orange-tan Sphalerite of an earlier generation, with the occasional translucent apricot orange zone. Accounts of specimens from the Joplin Field suggest such specimens nucleate around a core of chert. This may be the case here, but remains unknown because the two generations of Sphalerites completely cover every side, including the base. Scattered over the Sphalerite are various sized pure white aggregates of what I suspect are micro-crystallised Dolomite and Calcite.\n
