A really substantial cabinet specimen of a European classic. Wulfenite from Mežica (Miess), Slovenia is arguably better known than that from the Type Locality across the border at Bad Bleiberg in Austria. The Wulfenite in this specimen has crystallized in two forms/generations, both of a burnt orange colour with characteristic greasy lustre. Firstly, as a network of thin intergrown platy crystals, over which a later generation of blockier crystals have developed. The later crystals mostly form a bipyramidal habit, but with complex modifications - some with multiple terminations, others with inverted, or hoppered faces. Many of these larger crystals impressively reach over 1.5 cm in size. Unusually, a section of primary mineralization - Quartz veinstone - is attached to one side of this specimen.
