We tend to consider Cambokeels one of the more recent mining operations in Weardale because of revived operations beginning in the 1970s, together with the likes of Frazer's Hush and Groverake. However, the origin of Cambokeels (previously named Cammock Isle mine; Cumnock Isle mine; Cammock Eals mine) dates to around the mid to late 1840's which fits well with this specimen, accompanied with a Bryce M. Wright (90, Gt. Russell St., London) label. This cabinet specimen is formed from many intergrown Calcite crystals forming hemispherical, narrow blades average 2 cm wide on a matrix of massive Calcite, partly shot-through with Sphalerite and Chalcopyrite. Each Calcite crystal contains a curved line of micro-sized sulphide crystal inclusions which delineate a phantom Calcite termination from a previous stage of crystal growth.
