Calcite with Quartz$1,000.00

This super cabinet specimen is two minerals for the price of one, in a fantastic combo. The Coronation Lode at Geevor mine near St. Just, Cornwall is well-known for producing superb pale cream coloured platy Calcite crystals, of the type once termed "Scheiffer spath" or paper spar, but these crystals often merge in an ordered fashion to form rosettes. This one is noted on an old label as "Butterfly Calcite" but similar Calcite in the neighbouring Levant mine got given the nickname "Levant roses". Beneath the Calcite is an equally fine aggregate of pyramidal pale Smoky Quartz crystals looking like a miniature mountain range. The delicate nature of this wafer thin form of Calcite means that many of the original specimens recovered no longer survive intact, but this one is superb, and testament to the previous owners who have really cared for it. Several old labels are present, the earliest of which has the date 1986 written on it.
