Calcite var. axe head twin
Unknown Owner
The remarkable find of axe head twinned Calcite crystals at Bonsall Moor Quarry in around 1982 is now legendary and specimens are to be found in many good collections of British and Derbyshire minerals. The discovery was made by Steve and Don Rust, brothers who were, and remain, renowned collectors within the British Isles, with countless one off and first discoveries under their belts. This miniature of honey buff Calcite displays an asymmetric symmetry with re-entrant angled faces, capped with sharp angular terminations, hence the term ‘axe’. The Calcite is naturally lightly etched and is accompanied with four labels. One notes this specimen was in the collection of Michael E. Smith, co-founder of The Peak District Mines Historical Society. A Derbyshire classic!
