Tucson, Arizona, USAWith all of the wonder that is Weloganite, many of the other Type Locality species from Francon quarry in Montréal, Québec, Canada get somewhat forgotten. Dresserite, a barium aluminium carbonate hydroxide hydrate, is a prime example, with Francon quarry being not only the Type Locality, but the only locality where it has been confirmed. Francon quarry closed in 1981 and there is no possibility of it ever reopening due to the surrounding urban sprawl. This cabinet specimen of altered phonolite rock is richly coated in silky, white, acicular Dresserite microcrystals, many in radiating sprays, and spherical aggregates to 2 mm in diameter with a pale cream external colour. As a bonus, many 1 to 2 mm long, pale yellow Weloganite crystals are scattered amongst the Dresserite.
