This elongated, dramatic copper crystal reaches a significant 13.5 cm, with numerous rare and complicated (twinned tetrahexahedral) crystals reaching a centimeter and more. Many of the coppers from Keweenaw are quite old (late 1800s to early 1900s), and this piece is no exception. Information accompanying the Scalisi label notes that this came from the Harvard Museum collection, and prior to that from the Albert (Bert) Holden collection (1863-1913). Holden was a Harvard graduate in mining engineering and had significant operations in US metal mining. Upon his death, he donated his mineral collection to his alma mater. Phil Scalisi reversed the process and brought most of them to market over several decades, through his own collection. This then was in the George Elling collection of East Coast classics. This is a rare, impressive piece with unusual style, and is large to the eye when displayed vertically.
