Like a slice from a glacier, this cabinet-sized smithsonite specimen features phenomenal vitreous luster with a color gradient that transitions from a snow white to an icy blue-green. This is very unusual compared to other specimens here which tend to be thicker, and more built up in depth and mass, so it gives you a very big surface viewing area, especially for the price. Layers of colorless/grey smithsonite make small pockets in the matrix, viewable from the backside of the specimen. This is from a small, curated lot from the remarkable find at Yanga Koubenza in the summer of 2021, bursting onto the mineral scene with stunning blue smithsonite and aurichalcite specimens comparable to Kelly mine and Choix (Mexico) material.
