This large Colombian Emerald crystal weighs in at 18.23 grams and has characteristic riveting green color and textbook shape - it is simply large and dramatic! As a bonus, it displays a captivating interior with subtle features within. It has textbook, hexagonal, barrel shape and measures 3.6 cm in length and 1.6 cm in width with a glassy luster. It is transparent to translucent, with gem areas locally throughout and a 4 mm gem cap that reveals its gemmy interior when looking down the termination. The core of the crystal has veiled inclusions as well as charcoal colored Graphite inclusions; both characteristic of many Colombian Emeralds. The crystal exhibits both first and second order prism faces, which is unusual, and a perfectly flat pinacoid (top) termination. It is essentially complete all around, terminated on one end and contacted at the bottom end. It looks like a gem section was peeled off the bottom tip, and it was then polished on that bottom after that to see if there was a window into another stone above... typical of the miners to harvest one gem tip if it was a floater and complete on both ends originally. Few Colombian Emeralds reach this size and make it to the collector community, especially after having survived the mining process and then jewelers and faceters who break up lovely crystals for a sliver of rough inside them. It is impressive enough to stand on its own, as the emerald's shape and color glow from across a room.
