A special example of the famous water clear calcites that shocked us when first found in Zhejiang in around 2003, this is a stone cold killer for the size. It was preserved for 20 years in the collection of Steve Smale, from whom we recently exchanged it. This is NOT from one of the new finds of similar material from the same region. The new material has smooth sides and therefore lacks the subtle, patterned "lemurian-quartz-like" striations on the horizontal faces, that distinguish the old material from the new. This is from decades ago, and the style remains distinct to this day. Although nearly pristine already (as required by Steve to own anything, in any case), we did send to lab for cleaning and had the chance therefore to restore a few very, very tiny dings on the edges. These were restored with epoxy to make the edges look smooth visually (such minor restoration is undetectable except under UV). A true classic of mid-China golden years finds, rarely seen for sale today.
