Here is a desirable and historic cluster of lustrous and translucent crystals of Ludlamite from the famous Santa Eulalia District. Many collectors consider these to be the best examples of their species, if not the biggest! They have a saturated green color and a richness that Bolivian examples usually do not, combined with more robust crystals. These came out in the mid 1980s and were quickly snapped up by collectors, becoming modern classics at the time. The quality was never found again. These Ludlamite clusters strongly resemble the famous wheat-sheaf Rhodochrosite clusters from N'Chwaning, but in green! This distinct habit is quite attractive, especially with the luster resulting in the crystals to just shine, almost as if they are waxed. This robust cluster perched nicely on the Goethite matrix measures 2 cm across and 1.3 cm high; it is contacted on the backside. It's a significant specimen with good aesthetics and color. As Ludlamites go, this is a very good miniature for the species! John Barlow collection #3134, bought by me from John directly when he sold some of his thumbnails and toenails to me in the late 1990s, and then placed to Richard Mushlitz for his superb suite of exquisite miniatures and toenail sized specimens (one of the earliest internet-based mineral collectors at the time). Cleaning, for the first time, has really helped brighten this up and revealed how gemmy and translucent it is, internally. A superb classic that can be trimmed a little bit to fit a thumbnail box, or remain a small miniature for display.
