While it has been explored since the early to mid 1900s, Yanga Koubenza has never produced smithsonite until recently. In the summer of 2021, an exciting discovery uncovered a few pockets of wonderful blue-green smithsonite and aurichalcite, of which we obtained a small select lot of high grade examples. Waxy light blue botryoids of smithsonite cover a bit of matrix on this specimen, with tiny pockets of aurichalcite visible on the bottom. There is a dusting of white secondary growth over some of the specimen with glistening microcrystals, making it appear as if it is sugar-coated! A beautiful blue smithsonite similar to finds at Kelly mine and Choix, Mexico, at a much more affordable price point!
