Fluorapatite
The famous Panasqueira Mine produced the world's best apatites in its heyday in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, and then these became legendary collectibles. Blue and Purple were the most prized colors, and both are rare on the market today. In the Pohl collection, she maintained a complete suite of colors, of which this is one of the more significant with purple hue. The specimen features deeply purple crystals with strong color, to 3 cm across the longest termination. Such rich clusters of purple were always rare, and more so today. Newer production here has seemed to give a lot of apatite, but not so much in the blue and purple colors, making this an obvious survivor from the old days (as well as the fact that it was in a collection for a few decades!).
