From a 2019 discovery, this is a deep blue, translucent specimen of shockingly good color for a Greek location. That is a little scary, actually... if it was labelled it as Kelly Mine (New Mexico) at twice the price, it would not draw any red flags or raised eyebrows. Very rarely do we see Greek blue Smithsonite of this quality. Not only does it have the solid Kelly Blue color, but it has the translucency as well, and is actually a fairly valuable piece for lapidary and carving material of solid Smithsonite of this color and quality (the sad fate of many Kelly Mine pieces!). The slightly darker blue botryoidal (rounded) growths atop are 3.6 cm across. The color is gorgeous with any light but glows with even a little backlighting. Exceptional for Greece, it is also a fine Smithsonite for the size and color style, regardless of locality.
