Powellite on Apophyllite

In the summer of 2020, a new pocket of powellites was found in Pandulena Hills, around 8 km from Nasik, and the habits are starkly different from the blockier crystals we're more used to seeing from more classic locales in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. These pointy, honey-colored powellite crystal clusters are more reminiscent of what we might imagine to be orange apophyllites than of powellites! The left cluster here features dozens of spikey powellites (largely undamaged), offset by a large blocky apophyllite crystal, with another little cluster of powellite on the right side. Most Indian powellites are found in association with calcite or scolecite; the apophyllite blocks from this find are a new novelty. They are different in geometry, style, and color from any we have seen before and have an extra bonus - shockingly strong yellow fluorescence under UV. A new style of powellite, truly unique compared to previous finds! Individual crystals in the cluster, which is 3 inches tall or across as you sit it, are to over an inch.
